Saturday 10th May in Exeter, the long way, and a posh Aussies accent!

We drove this time, through Lyndhurst, and made our way to Lyme Regis, as our co-hosts had recommended it.  The weather was foul.  I don't know what it would be called, but scuddy rain, howling wind, is not the sort of weather  that I would suggest for the beach.

But hundreds of people were there!  It is also the area known as the Jurassic Coast, as over time the chalky hills have eroded and fossils found, including something that is a cross between a porpoise and a crocodile.

We ventured into the museum, and the fellow couldn't tell that I was from Australia, and not a taxpayer, so they could get their tax back.  He told me that he was very good at accents, and I didn't sound like an Aussie at all, in fact I had a "posh Australian accent", almost English!  I thanked him for the compliment, hope my aunt in Scotland thinks the same!  I have some photos taken in the museum of the fossils, and for the Jane Austin fans, she lived here, and you should see the lace done in 16th century!  But I have to wait for some room on the "cloud", I don't know why some photos downloaded and not this lot from the museum!  The mysteries of the internet!

We had lunch - crab sandwiches to get out of the rain and wind!

Then we drove to Beer, and they had some sort of concert happening, and again no hope of parking.
Apparently some Westlakes were buried in the cemetery.  But the coastline was rather striking, as was the views of the Devon hills.

Another smugglers haven

The houses are all made of stone

Next stop Exeter, via the scenic route again, cause there are two B&B the same name, and I had put the wrong address in my notes.  But we were in Alphington, the home of my great grand aunts, The Alphington Ponies.  We eventually found our home, in a disused mill.

So from the town of Beer to the pub with beer, for our dinner in Woodbury Salterton.
