Through the scenic route from Glasgow to Newcastle on Tyne Sunday 15th June

It was goodbye to Glasgow, and our apartment, which really was good value, in a good location, and in a quiet neighbourhood.

Instead of following the major highways, firstly we stopped at the Ironworks Museum.  Bit too much brown smoke spewing from the ancient machines, for my liking, can imagine that people did not have a long life expectancy with all the industrial factories, iron and steel mills.

Amazing what you find, the steel from here was used to build the Forth Railway Bridge

It was Father's Day in the UK and other places, but this museum would be grandson heaven!
They also had some displays of olden day equipment.
Any wonder I don't like the dentist this is how it was when I was young

For Mary, her dad used to run the picture theatre, and would have used this projector

There were also displays of sport, this one took my fancy.
Imagine throwing the 20lb weighted ball!

Through lots of farmland, and lots of towns, through forests, lots of stone houses and bridges and we stopped for lunch at Pebbles.  Still in Scotland, they were getting ready for their festival next week.

The breed the salmon huge up here
We had roast lamb, so those poor little babies that we are seeing in every paddock, end up gracing our dinner plates.  In comparison this lamb is much less fatty than ours, and has a different taste. Might have to try cooking my lamb roasts in the crockpot in the future.  Did I mention the red cabbage? Don't know how they manage to get the red throughout, when you cut one of ours there is a lot of white inside.  It could be that they make it like a jam first, will have to research that!

We then travelled through more and more farmland, through beautiful scenery, small towns and large, lots of stone work again, and crossed into England.  The clouds appeared to be thicker around the English mountains.
Check out the very narrow bridge we had to cross.
We had some difficulty finding our accommodation, because while we are at Ryton, Stella Road doesn't go through the town, according to the Sat nav it goes through the adjoining town.   Ask a local and we were put in the right direction.  I have suggested that instead of getting to one town then putting in our destination, that the driver does a bit more planning with the confounded Heidi.  Cause this happens regularly.

Our B&B is set in lovely setting, with deer in the park behind.  Won't hold our breath to see one, although today I think we saw a badger as road kill.

Hopefully tomorrow will be fine, as today was supposed to be, but like all weather forcasts they are never correct!
