Well I am home, to join with many others in the year of the Homecoming for Scotland, while it has a bit to do with the Commonwealth Games in August, I still comply!
We had a very smooth crossing, on a very big ferry, and I was astounded at the number of semi-trailers that take goods across the sea. And very glad I wasn't born 400 years ago when the Scottish families from these low-lands embarked on a perilous journey in a "canoe"!
Once again I thought this was a small town, but it isn't, in fact the area is one that is visited more often than others. Probably the closeness to the ocean for holiday escapes helps. There industry here is based on scallops. Not quite the ones we are used to but, much smaller, and very delicious.
I had scallops with my "just caught" salmon, cooked pink all the way through, and just how I like to serve it.
The town is quite colourful, and the residents have made efforts to brighten up their walls and doors, unlike some of the other rather drab towns that we passed along the way.

The story of the scallops. Most are exported to France and Europe, story sounds familiar! |
The town is known as the Artist's Town, with many galleries and lots of exhibitions almost every week.

We met this man from Kent who is cycling around the coast, he left Kent 5 weeks ago! Hard work in the wet weather! |
The town is quite old, and has been a fort in the olden times. Later a castle was built, but it is rather derelict now.

A walk around didn't take very long, but there are lots of new builds under construction on the fringe of the township.

Back to our B&B, then tomorrow we are driving through to Glasgow via Dumfries and a quick stop at the Carphone World for another problem with the "xxxxxxxx" Lebara on my tablet. This time they wanted me to tell them the model number of the phone, why? I asked, so they can send me a message to re-configure the phone, well I am not pulling my phone apart to get to the model number. Why would they need to re-configure the phone? Once again I was not asked for any personal details before trying to sort out my problem.
I give up, the message came, then asked for a pin, the only pin I had was on the packet with the sim card. I entered the number, and naturally nothing happened! Do not every buy a Lebara SIM card, or read tripadvisor before leaving home if you want to buy a UK sim card, cause this mob are hopeless.
The next few days will be rather special for me, meeting my cousins and aunt, and I never knew they existed until a couple of months ago. The icing on the cake, so they say.
