Tripping around the countryside Templin to Lychen Thursday 17th

For our last day we decided to visit Gerswalde, another place in the family history.  It is not far from Templin, and like most towns features a church,  but we as yet haven't been able to find any old cemeteries. Most of the churches seem to be unused, possibly because of the Communist rulings.  The town had many old buildings and a mix of more modern homes as well.  Surrounding the village were the agricultural lands.  People don't have a house on the lands, and we don't know if they lease the farms, or how the system works.  Again so much canola.

If the stones could talk!

Then onto Prenzau, a larger town with a wall and gates.  Apparently the lands were all Slavic, and the were wars in 1200's when Germans invaded,  then the cities were made trading centre's,  and the walls were constructed.

A 3d effect of the gate and the church

The wall surrounds the city.

Some comfort for the Knights,  I always wondered how they managed
We then drove to a most picturesque town Lychen,  surrounded by lakes, and found a restaurant overlooking the lake for a late lunch.

Then back to Templin for a look at the market and coffee and scrumptious  cake.

We called into the information Centre to try to work out where the old  cemeteries would be, but no luck, on the way home we stopped at the cemetery on our road, and the graves are all planted with flowers.

From Templin have a Happy Easter Break!

  2. They probably call Canola 'Rapeseed' in Germany. They certainly call it Rapeseed in England.
